Help Paying Utilities

Duke Power/Energy offers utility bill help in South Carolina

While Duke Energy does operate in many states in the midwest and southeast, some of the financial help offered for utility bills is specific to the state of South Carolina. The state has been hit hard by the poor economy, so thousands of people take advantage of the resources offered by Duke Energy.

Utility disconnection moratorium - South Carolina residents have laws that protect them from having their utilities disconnected at certain times of the year by Duke Power. There are some conditions, including the customer can’t be able to pay their utility bills, and they must also have some type of medical condition.

Elderly protection programs - If you are 65 years of age or older in South Carolina, Duke Energy offers these customers additional protections. You will have additional rights and assistance offered to you if/when you are behind on paying your utility bills.

Fans - Duke will provide elderly customers with free fans during the summer.

Share the Warmth and Cooling Bill Assistance - These programs are funded by Duke Power as well as individuals customers. This allows individuals the ability to contribute funds that will benefit their “neighbor”. The cooling programs focuses on paying utilities bills during the hot South Carolina summers, and Share the Warmth operates year round.
